2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 3,700 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 3 trips to carry that many people.

Thanksgiving Hawaiian Style

In my childhood years in the Philippines, we ate off of banana leaves when we would hike up to my grandmother’s property in the mountains in her province.  I have fond memories of our tour guide, who was known as Uncle Spergion, hacking the banana leaves with his bolo knife when it was time to have lunch as we’d take a break from our hike.

Then the moms and aunties would grab the leaves and give them a quick wash in the nearby stream of natural spring water.  While us young kids would sit and watch, the older kids helped out in preparing the food.  Then the FUN part is we got to use the banana leaves as plates and ate with our hands!  Of course we had to wash our hands before we ate.

This year at our Thanksgiving lunch, we did just that…except it was at our townhouse.  And used ti leaves as we didn’t have enough banana leaves.  Not everyone ate with their hands. But a few adventurous ones did!

And I like how it was such an easy clean up.  Definitely going to try this again!  Hope your Thanksgiving with family and friends was filled with love, fun and laugher.  And are enjoying the rest of this Thanksgiving weekend!

Veteran’s Day

Being in the military is a high calling.  Because it takes a lot of sacrifice and selflessness.

So today we honor all of you who served in the military and THANK YOU for protecting our country!  And honestly, today is just a reminder for us to honor and thank you throughout the year.  I am privileged to have one in our family as my brother served in the U.S. Air Force.

And thank God for all the men and women who continue to serve and protect our United States of America!

RECOVERY FOOD :-D

Did you know that our island RAW granola is not only considered a yummy on the go snack/breakfast and even light dinner but also a recovery food?

Our bodies need a break once in awhile much like a computer or a car.  If it’s constantly on the go, it will break down and need sometime to heal and recover.

And with the holidays creeping up on us, it is a good move to prepare our bodies by eating recovery foods such as our island RAW granola, for the many holiday festivities we will be attending!  You can even take it a step further by having it in stock as these super foods are able to help us recover anytime throughout the year!

We are currently taking pre-orders on lirios.biz under the Contact Us page while the Order Form in the Store page is in repair.

And we are currently updating our website to add more details on how our island RAW granola is the perfect nutritious yet so delicious handy all-around food!

Traveling Made Easier!

After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I was pretty much bedridden for quite a long time. And prior to diagnosis, I actually had already pulled out of a lot of things as my body continued to become weak and non-functional.  Sometime after my treatment began, I was able to get around slowly.  And I mean sssloooowwwly…

When my body became a little stronger and I was able to travel, it was such a challenge as I couldn’t find the foods and drinks I can have at the stores.  It was difficult to find them as I became allergic or sensitive to so many ingredients.  For every product, I had to learn to read the back of the label and read EVERY SINGLE INGREDIENT.  I kid you not!  Try shopping for food and eating out while you are on vacation.  It is not easy!  I still have to do it today as I continue to heal.  But oh my!  Have things changed for the better!

It was a pleasant surprise to find more real, clean, whole foods available at stores that I can easily bring with me when I travel.  I used to only find them at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, but now Safeway, Raley’s, to name a few, are making healthier products available.  And new health food markets as well as sustainable cafes/restaurants are popping up as well.  Many more restaurants are also making dishes available for people with special diets.

Here’s an example of what I was able to carry with me as I traveled.  Conveniently packaged for on the go.  And of course, our island RAW granola has become a staple!

Good news!  Down To Earth in Kapolei has placed a new order!

So, a new batch is available at the Grab N Go in the Deli Section and the Local Section by the front entrance.   And after handing out samples for the second time, it was good to hear from the customers’ feedback again.  Lots of positive!

And don’t forget, it is also available at KOKUA MARKET, POKE STOP and Honolulu Gourmet Foods.  And soon in Vim N Vigor!

KOKUA MARKET’s Annual Sampling Day

Thanks to my quick-thinking, tech savvy hubby, he was able to capture a quick video of the KOKUA MARKET’s Annual Sampling Day where all the owners came out to meet the local vendors.

I was invited for the first time and I must say it was such an honor to be there and meet the customers and talk to them in person. Thankful for my husband and son to accompany me and help out give samples.

We had so much fun sharing the goodness of island RAW granola as many people came up to our booth to take samples and asked questions. They were really interested to know what it is and to find out the nutritive value and how it is made.

All in all, it was a beautiful, positive day at the market!
