It all started with a gum infection in January of 2012. I was preparing to leave for CA to visit my family. I was in excruciating pain! So I made an emergency appointment to see my dentist in town. He confirmed the infection and directed me to a specialist to do a root canal.
In the meantime, I had to see my LAc (Licensed Accupuncturist), Jenna Murad, as I was getting treatments from her once to twice a month at the time. She highly recommended I try seeing a Biological Dentist (see this link for more info on Biological Dentistry http://iabdm.org/) for my gum infection as from my ongoing treatments with her, she has suspected many of my symptoms were connected to my oral health. She has actually recommended for me to check him out even before this incident but I didn’t listen to her as it seemed too farfetched. Besides, I was already seeing a Holistic Dentist at the time and he didn’t connect some of the health issues I was going through with my oral health. In fact, he was the one who recommended I get a root canal. Boy, was I so wrong to not listen to her!
In desperation, I finally took her advice and saw Dr. Carlson, DDS, Biological Dentist. His diagnosis was so radical to me at the time that I honestly wasn’t sure who or what to believe! All I knew was I was in A LOT of pain. In addition to my already daily symptoms from Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain.
He basically told me he has done root canals in the past and now highly recommends against them. After he learned what root canals can do to the human body, he became convinced it was something he could not continue in his private practice. In addition, we continue to be surrounded with toxins everyday whether through water, food, air, pollution, etc. So, for preventive measures, it was best to opt out of root canal.
Simultaneously, he admits some people seem to handle root canals okay. So it just depends on the person’s overall health.
This was such an eye opener to me! And it’s interesting that before getting diagnosed with Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain in 2007, I walked around thinking my symptoms were just all in my head as I couldn’t get any doctors or specialists to give me a straight answer as to why my health was deteriorating. Little did I know then that it WAS ALL IN MY HEAD! As I had several root canals, heavy metals and amalgams (silver fillings) in my mouth.
Leaving a dead tooth in my mouth was not a good idea in his assessment. Especially since my overall health was already compromised. Simply put, if one had an infectious gangrene in his or her finger, it would be necessary to amputate the infected area to prevent it from spreading. It is very much the same with a dead tooth. For further details, you can check out Hal Huggins’ website and read his page on Root Canals Contain Toxic Bacterium athttps://www.hugginsappliedhealing.com/root-canals-toxic.php.
So instead, he did a pulpotomy (where he extracted my dead tooth and drained the infection) and that’s it! I was on high dosage of vitamin C and rinsed my mouth with warm water mixed with Hawaiian sea salt for a week. The pain eventually went away slowly but surely. And the surgery site amazingly healed really well! I was then able to travel to CA.
Soon after my travels I saw him again. My pathology report came back from the lab and he showed it to me confirming the anaerobic bacteria in my root canals. And throughout the year of 2012, I basically went through a major overhaul of my oral health! A series of silver fillings (amalgams), permanent retainer and root canals were removed one at a time. Apparently, the heavy metals were negatively contributing to my condition and the mix of heavy metals and failed root canals in my mouth were wreaking havoc to my health! It was explained to me this way. When there is a mix of heavy metals and root canals in the mouth, the two will act like a battery. Now you can imagine what they were doing to my mouth which is connected to my body! It was again another MAJOR piece to the puzzle I’ve been trying to solve or put together for a very long time! See these two links for detailed information. One is by Dr. Mercola in YouTube and the other is by Dr. Vizcarra, DDS, Bio Dentistry in Mexico who follows Weston A. Price, D.D.S. and Dr. E. Meinig, D.D.S., F.A.C.D.
I was told it was not a good idea to remove all of them at the same time as it can shock my system. It could trigger another auto immune illness (in the medical community, it’s debatable whether Fibromyalgia is considered an auto immune disease or not). And it needed to be done the right way.
As the direction of my treatment plan shifted to my oral health, I was looking forward for my body to take another level of healing! It was in 2012 that I realized in order for me to continue healing, I needed to approach it one layer at a time. And this layer was something missing for over a decade!
From my own research, I later found out if one were to go forward with root canals, finding a dentist who is highly trained in root canal therapy is recommended.
